Products on your site with no photos?

Easily sync product images to your website by using our database or providing photos for missing items.

We use the price and movement report from your point of sale system to determine what products are currently sold at your store. We then compare this list with our database and sync all product images we have. We do not have images for every single product that exists, but we are always adding to our database! 


Your wholesaler can typically provide the images and UPCs for most missing private label products; however, there will be some products, including locally sourced products, that will need pictures and product information. This typically includes products that you make or package in-store or source locally, typically from your meat, bakery and deli departments. For these items, you may need to take photos of them before we can add them to our system.


Search our library first!

We have a huge selection of stock photos to use for products, follow the steps below to search our database and see if we have an image that will work for your product (PLUs only)

  • Go to the item missing a photo on your website
  • Click on the pencil icon to go to the item editing page ( you must be logged in as an admin to see this)
  • Click on the “linking” tab in the blue menu bar
  • Click the “search PLU library” button
  • Search for the photo and category that best describes your product
    • Make your selection and click on “Link PLU”
    • You may edit the item description and/or category once you have linked an item


If you do not find a photo in our database…


Option 1: Take photos using the ShopHero Fulfillment App


Prepare the Product

  • Pick an item that looks nice, avoid any with scratches, tears or dents
  • Remove the item from the shelf and place it on a clean and clear background (this can be a box or a table with a white or black backdrop) 
  • Find an area with bright, even lighting
  • Remove or cover the price on any price tags 
  • When selecting meat or seafood make sure that it is fresh. Avoid meat with a “Reduced Price” tag on it, or any showing discoloration


Login to the ShopHero Fulfillment mobile app 

  • Select “Inventory Management” 
  • Select the store location
  • Using your phone’s camera, Scan the barcode or type in a PLU for the product in the app
  • Select "Take Ecom Photo" - You do not need to take a “detail” photo unless the front of the product does not list name and size information (if details are not available on the front of the product, please use the “detail” photo to send more pictures for our team).

NOTE: Depending on your phone, the phone may crop the image in an unexpected way. Check the image on the phone screen after you take the photo. Keep in mind you may have to position the camera differently than it appears when you’re taking the photo.


The barcode/PLU info along with the photo are sent to ShopHero’s data quality team where it is processed and prepared for your site. 


ShopHero will photoshop the image to make it eCommerce ready, extract all product info (full description, flavor, size, brand, etc.), categorize the product, and tag it with relevant info (gluten free, organic, etc.). The entire process typically takes 5-7 business days to get a new product on your site.



Taking Photos - Best Practices

  • Turn off your camera flash. The flash from your camera should not be used in product photos. 
  • Always clean and blow away any dust from objects and the camera lens when necessary.
  • Check the focus after each shot by zooming into the image on your camera and checking that it has not blurred or missed focus.
  • Make sure you are at eye level with the product before you take the pictures, otherwise you will end up with photos like the wine bottle below on the left.




Option 2: Upload a product photo using the Admin Panel


You may use photos you have previously taken and edited, an image you received from your wholesaler, or other legally obtained images for your products.

  • Find the product missing an image on the website or through the admin panel under Products & Inventory> All products and searching up the product
  • Go to the item editing page (by clicking on the pencil icon on the website, or by selecting the item on the list in the search)
  • Select the “PHOTO” tab in the blue menu bar under the general product information
  • Upload the image*

* Product Image must be “ecommerce ready”, meaning there will be no editing done once uploaded and will go as-is on the website. Minimum image size is 800 pixels wide, we prefer larger. For example, 1200 x 1200 pixels is a good image size. The image does not need to be square, but square is preferred.


Please allow up to 48 hours for the image to appear on the website.




⚠️LEGAL WARNING ⚠️: it is illegal to download images from the internet without authorization. You cannot download or use images from Google without seeking permission from the copyright holder. This means you cannot search for an image for an item on Google, download it, and upload it to the Shophero site.





One last note…


If you DO NOT want to provide a photo but still want the item on your site

  • Select the item UPC, from the list in the admin panel product search
  • Toggle the red “Flagged” Review Status to “Approved”
  • Select a category/ sub-categories for the item
  • Make sure the product online description is what you would like your shopper to see
